Morocco: The Cosmetic Constitution

Inching towards freedom and democracy in Morocco... thousands took to the streets Sunday, June 19, in cities across Morocco to protest the proposed constitution changes.

  1. The King of Morocco delivered a speech on Friday addressing the new changes in the country's constitution. The video below gives a bit of a background on the proposed changes and the King's speech. Many say that the changes are only cosmetic and that the monarchy has a history of appeasing people temporarily with cosmetic changes.

  3. Early on, Sunday's demonstration in Rabat ended with 40 people being wounded by pro-regime thugs. Demonstrators in Casablanca, Fes, Asfi and Tangier were also harassed but were able to continue on with the demonstrations.

    Moroccan activists and bloggers were ablaze on Twitter tweeting updates minute by minute along with posting videos and articles on their Facebook walls and pages and on YouTube. 


    Mamfakinch.com, again mapped out cities in Morocco and globally, giving times for demonstrations to begin and adding video updates to the map as they came forth.
