Millions March NYC covered by Stony Brook University journalism students

Eight Stony Brook University School of Journalism students, their professor and an alumnus now working at the Daily News covered the rally where tens of thousands took to the streets to protest grand jury decisions not to indict police officers involved in the deaths of two unarmed black men.

  1. Police estimated about 30,000 people came for the march. The stream of people spanned roughly 20 blocks.
  2. Santacon, a day where bar patrons dress up as Santa Claus and hop from establishment to establishment, happened to be the same day as the march. The clashes between the two groups were not always friendly.
  3. Many celebrities also showed up for the march, including Russell Simmons and Danielle Brooks.
