Internet Vigilantism?

Internet vigilantism seems to becoming increasingly common.

  1. What does vigilantism mean? According to the Free Online Law Dictionary, it refers to: "Taking the law into one's own hands and attempting to effect justice according to one's own understanding of right and wrong..." For what I'd hope would be fairly obvious reasons, our legal system typically frowns on vigilantism.
  2. If a particular Twitter user is doing something one does not like, I'd recommend blocking him or her and moving on. Encouraging others to "pounce on him" seems a bit risky. I'd also note that stalking is a criminal offense in many jurisdictions and is a term that probably shouldn't be used lightly. If someone is being stalked, please encourage them to report it to law enforcement.
