First Nations leadership development and spirituality by Dr. Jaqueline Ottmen.
Dr. Ottmen began her panel with the importance of acknowledging the Traditional Territories we are on. Our youth are the next generation and it is essential we inform our youth of such positions as, Vice-Indigenous Provost Engagement, so they can aspire for those positions, as children.”
Dr. Ottmen went on to speak of the concept of leadership as this was the main theme to her thesis research. When thinking of the concept of leadership, we all are leaders, we all have a circles of influence. Similarly to our Chieftain leadership. The Chiefs who signed the treaties thought of me and you, as we are apart of those 7 generations. Their rationale was of a holistic measure.
Although Dr. Ottmen has much more to say, we will conclude with her quote. “We research what we value and that is a form of love.”
