Barack Obama visits the University of Iowa

For the second time in three years, President Barack Obama visited the University of Iowa campus this week — this time to talk about college affordability. Here is a little bit of what people were saying on social media leading up to and during the President's visit.


  1. The announcement that President Obama would visit campus was made last Friday. 
  2. Monday, students started lining up at the IMU Box Office at 6 a.m. to get tickets to the event. 
  3. The quote from one of the first four students in line: "I feel like I got the golden ticket." They ended up sitting directly behind the President during his speech.

  6. People started lining up at 1 a.m. Wednesday morning outside the UI Field House. The doors opened at 10 for President Obama's 1 p.m.  speech. Excitement built to a frenzy as the event neared.  
  7. Some were not so excited to have President Obama on campus. 
  8. The Iowa Pep Band made it through security, and then entertained the crowd. The atmosphere was that of a Hawkeyes game at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
