UFWH 2016

In the last week of February, over 300 passionate individuals gathered at the University of Missouri, Columbia for the 11th annual Universities Fighting World Hunger Summit. Here are some highlights and emerging ideas that stemmed from this collaborative event.

  1. In the days leading up to the summit, innovative leaders from universities, NGOs, governmental organizations, and the private sector traveled from around the world to share ideas and learn about best practices in the fight against hunger.

  3. Day 1: The event kicked off with the PUSH Leaders Forum, where dedicated university presidents, chancellors, and faculty discussed the critical role of universities as leaders in the fight against hunger both domestically and abroad.

  4. Featured: Global Open Data for Agriculture and Nutrition (GODAN) works to support global efforts to make agricultural and nutritionally relevant data available, accessible, and usable for application worldwide. Universities have an important role to play! Learn more here: godan.info
  5. Featured: Athletic directors from Auburn University and the University of Missouri-Columbia shared how university athletic programs can act as valuable advocates for student and campus involvement in anti-hunger initiatives.

  6. Day 2: After the Leaders Forum, the UFWH Summit kicked off with hundreds of student leaders in attendance!

  7. Featured: In a special session before the UFHW kickoff, a panel was held to equip attendees to hold a Hunger Dialogue in their home state.
  8. Featured: World Food Prize Laureate Catherine Bertini gave the first keynote of the Summit, encouraging students to step up and set big goals in their undergraduate and graduate pursuits.
