  1. Aarick Knighton '16 is from Syracuse, NY and is studying Information Management & Technology at the School of Information Studies (iSchool).
  2. On campus, Aarick is a member of SU's social media team and is the technology chair for the Student Association. He was previously a columnist technology at The Daily Orange student newspaper.
  3. What is your favorite thing about SU?
  4. My favorite things about SU are the opportunities and resources that are available to students. From internships, academic trips to its strong alumni network, students are exposed to really cool experiences simply from being a part of the orange family.
  5. What is your favorite SU memory?
  6. My favorite SU memory would have to be the first time SU men's basketball played Duke in the Carrier Dome. Campus was electric the entire week leading up to the game. "Duke Week" included random chants around campus, 'Beat Duke' written on all the buses and camping out in Boeheimburg in frigid cold weather. It was amazing to see the school spirit and orange pride - I think it really brought the campus together.
  7. If you could tell a new or incoming student just ONE thing about SU, what it would be?
  8. Force yourself to step outside of your comfort zone. Try as many new things as you can and it will probably lead to opportunities you never thought were possible.
  9. Good morning, #OrangeNation! My name is Aarick Knighton and I'll be taking over the account this week to give you a glimpse into my life at @SyracuseU! Syracuse University has provided me with experiences, connections and memories that will last a lifetime and I can't wait to share my adventures with you this week. Stay tuned! - AK #SyracuseU

  10. My favorite place to study on campus is the Ice Box, located on the second floor of Hinds Hall. ICE stands for innovation, collaboration, and entrepreneurship. Its peaceful yet interactive atmosphere makes it the perfect place to be productive and bounce ideas off of other students. One of the coolest features is that the walls are whiteboards that you can write on which comes in handy during team meetings and group projects. I'm finishing up some last minute studying (and a sleeve of Girl Scout cookies) then I'm off to my second midterm of the day. Wish me luck! - AK #SyracuseU

  11. In my senior capstone course, each group is assigned a local non-profit organization and works with them throughout the semester to improve their technology. My team is working with the Central NY Library Resources Council which provides all types of support for public resources in the area. We are currently developing a website that lets people quickly find information about health clinics, homeless shelters, food pantries and libraries nearby. I love the fact that my classwork allows me to get real-world experience working with clients and it's also for a good cause! - AK #SyracuseU

  12. When I first joined the @SUStudentAssociation I was unsure of what to expect since I had never been apart of a student government before. This is my first semester as the technology chair and after just a few weeks I can definitely say I made the right decision! I love watching an idea become a reality first-hand. It's also amazing to see how much the administration and faculty value the opinions of students. At SA I learned that even at a big school like Syracuse, everyone's voice matters. Whether it's during weekly meetings or just hanging out in the office, it is refreshing to be surrounded by people who are as passionate about making a difference on campus and in the community as I am. - AK #SyracuseU

  13. My favorite place to eat on campus is Goldstein Alumni & Faculty Center, one of SU's hidden gems! "Faculty" - as it's known by most students - is the only full-service restaurant on campus and offers special menu items throughout the week. It's only open during lunch hours which makes it the perfect spot to grab a bite to eat in between classes! - AK #SyracuseU

  14. Being apart of @syracuseu's social media team #44Social for the past two years has been an awesome experience. I love staying informed of all the campus news stories and it's flexibility with scheduling allows me to work in between classes. @cafekubal on Marshall St. is one of my go-to spots to grab a snack and get some work done. - AK #SyracuseU

  15. #TBT Writing has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. Even if you are not a writing major, @SyracuseU offers so many opportunities to express yourself and to have your work published. One of the most impactful experiences I had during my four years was my involvement with the @DailyOrange, SU's student newspaper. My time as the technology columnist taught me so much about diction, editing and meeting deadlines. With the skills I learned at the DO and in my classes, I was able to publish my first book this past semester, and I couldn't have done it without the advice from my professors and former editors. - AK #SyracuseU

  16. Following graduation in May, I will be joining Syracuse Media Group full-time as a social media producer. SMG is a digital marketing agency located in downtown Syracuse that works with brands such as Syracuse.com and The Post-Standard. While graduation brings a host of mixed emotions, I am super excited to begin this next chapter. I'm also looking forward to working in downtown Syracuse which has a great atmosphere filled with culture, shopping, arts and awesome food! Even though my time at SU is ending, I will still be in the city of Syracuse bleeding orange - AK #SyracuseU
