OpenCo announced that it will bring its ‘festival of innovation’ to London for the first time this summer, giving Londoners a unique opportunity to see and hear from some of the city’s most open, dynamic and innovative businesses.
Backed by the Mayor of London, London & Partners - London's official promotional organisation and Tech City Investment Organisation (TCIO), OpenCo London will take place on June 7th across the capital, with a launch event on the evening of 6th. It will run in partnership with Le Web 2013
to create a week of openness and an ‘economy of sharing’ in the Capital. Google Campus
, Absolute Radio
, Living Social
, Clear Channel UK
, The Bakery
, Love Home Swap
, London Business School (LBS)
and Central St Martin’s
are amongst the first companies to sign up as Host Co’s. Each will be opening their doors for a free 45 minute session through which they will welcome Londoners to come to their workspace, 'get behind the curtain' and learn more about their story.
OpenCo was founded to encourage ‘open’ and innovative companies to share their wisdom with marketers, entrepreneurs and curious neighbours alike. It launched last year in San Francisco to tremendous success
and will this year host additional events in New York City, Detroit and London – three cities famed for their forward-thinking outlook and home to some of the world’s most exciting companies.
The festival is now inviting other London companies to get on board, whether they be new start-ups or well-established global firms. The only requirement is that they all embrace the concept of openness: open collaboration, open communication, open community, open company and open doors.
OpenCo Founder John Battelle says, ‘There’s no better way to learn about innovation than up close and personal in its native habitat – and that’s what OpenCo London is all about. We want to give people the opportunity to hear from some of the most talented business minds out there and see some of the city’s most dynamic work environments.’
The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, says, ‘One of London’s key economic success stories has been the incredible growth of high tech and digital industries, notably within the dynamic Tech City cluster. The continued prosperity of this innovative industry is a vital component of my plan to deliver jobs and growth for London. Throwing open the doors of these enterprises is a great way for enterprises big and small to foster collaboration and build links with their communities. OpenCo is a great concept and I hope it will be a huge success.’
Eze Vidra, Head of Campus, says, ‘We see Google's Campus as an "open source building", bringing together talented entrepreneurs under one roof to strengthen the London start-up community and create serendipity. OpenCo London embodies these values, and we're looking forward to being part of it.’
