Steve Martin's Final Cut Pro X Training

I went to Steve Martin's Final Cut Pro X training class on Friday. I used to work with Final Cut Pro full time, then moved to iMovie to easily teach people how to get started. Now Apple has upgraded Final Cut Pro to make it easier to use like iMovie. Lots of FCP users are going to have to get used to the iMovie-like interface, and iMovie users are going to LOVE to new powerful features of FCP X.

  1. The Boston Final Cut Pro Users Group brought in Steve Martin for a day of training on FCP X.  They also provided free coffee and creamers.
  2. The class was held at E P Levine in Waltham. They've got a bunch of old camera gear around the store, along with lots of new stuff too.
  3. Old film. Didn't see any Kodachrome though. ;-)

  6. One thing I used to love to do with FCP was L and J cuts. A J cut is when  you can hear audio from the next video track before you can see what's making the sound.  It's a nice way to ties a video together when telling a story. FCP X makes it SO easy.
  7. Audio ducking is easy too. When you have something like a music background, you can just click and drag it to reduce it's volume.

  9. THIS is sweet. You can use an audio recorder with a lav mic to get great sound on the subject, while also recording on camera sound. Then you import both the original video and sound, and the audio recorder sound into FCP X, and click a button, and FCP X syncs the better audio to the clip.

This is going to be a great feature for people using pocket HD video camera, that want better sound.
