  1. Lazy morning, as nothing official happened until first plenary at 2pm. Don't worry, come Friday we'll more than make up for the laziness.
  2. So basically, until whatever hour we finish on Friday, the focus shifts from committee work to the whole GA floor, voting on all the actions referred to the larger body by the various committees. Some will be approved with relative ease. Others..... well, let's just say that's when we thank God for parliamentary procedure. Let the games begin.
  3. Always interesting why people choose to remove items from the consent agenda.... #theworldmayneverknow
  4. Pretty much all of Wednesday's items focus on Committees 14 and 7, Theological Issues & Institutions and Ecumenical & Interfaith Relations. A revised Directory of Worship and final approval of the Confession of Belhar would be of special significance.
  5. Dinner was a celebration of our Stated Clerk Grayde Parsons, who is retiring after this General Assembly. There was a big to-do for him; much-deserved. When Grayde spoke, he didn't say much; but what he said was more than enough:
  6. Guest speaker was noted writer and theologian Paul Raushenbush, who was incredible.
  7. Back to plenary. Had some issues with a handful of the voting mechanisms (the aforementioned "Blackberrys" in a previous post). On one vote the tally was so close that we had to vote four times before we had a definitive margin taking tech issues into consideration.....
  8. And now for the big vote on the Confession of Belhar. This was approved at the 221st GA two years ago; but because it requires adding a confession to our Book of Confession, it has to be approved by two GAs. This is one of two votes that I am truly honored to cast as a commissioner. Check out the video below to learn why:
  9. The Confession of Belhar and the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)
  10. And the vote....
  11. #Belhar passes! New confession that emphasizes unity, universal love and denouncement of discrimination, hate and fear. Proud to be part of this vote and to be a Presbyterian #ga222.
