PIREP - Stark Avionics

  1. Numerous individuals, I appreciate pireps from those with knowledge of shops you employ (bad or good) and want to offer my experience to the thought on others too. After a so-so experience after a recent avionics install, I found myself seeking an alternate avenue for your installation of a new transponder for ADS-B compliance. I called two local shops first. The expense of one was so high that I actually busted out laughing over the phone like I were with a comedy bar. He was apparently significantly less amused because i. I was telling the tale of my local quote to some friend in the airport and that he recommended that we call John Stark at Stark Avionics for any quote. In doing my homework before calling John, I browsed Mooneyspace and BT for pireps about the shop. In doing so, I stumbled upon a truly terrible pirep on Stark Avionics. (Search in BT if you want you just read it). This pirep caused me serious concern about whether or not to call Stark for a quote.
  2. I posted an over-all query for suggestions about an avionics shop and received another recommendation for Stark from another MSer (Oldguy). He and I spoke regarding his knowledge of Stark and i also chose to give John a phone call in line with the two recommendations I received from trusted sources. I was open with John regarding my concerns amongst the negative pirep on MS cheap I was gun shy based on the previous experience. As they always say, there's 2 sides to every single story and John took his time for it to explain his side in my experience much like me certain are experts in happy to do with other people who wishes to phone him constantly in that regard. Our conversation shifted from your pirep to pricing. John and that i discussed different equipment options, what would be perfect for my needs/wants and also the flat rate installed price for every option. We ultimately thought we would install the Stratus ESGi for ADS-B in/out. John quoted me a soft price, but was in advance how the number could be slightly higher if the tray was riveted in (as numerous Mooneys are). I went to manchester airport that night, took pictures and confirmed that my trays were that come with screws and forwarded those pictures to John. John responded in a very timely manner and confirmed the flat rate price for your equipment and install on paper and that we scheduled the install date and pickup date. The plane would have been to be delivered the Sunday after Thanksgiving. John said however have everything else but ready by Tuesday, however opted to schedule the pickup for Wednesday in case there are some snags on the way.
