  1. Be careful when shopping for imported skin whitening creams. Many of them contain illegal substances such as mercury. Too much mercury can damage your kidney.
  2. Make sure the dark spot creams can delay the production of melanin. This way, your hyperpigmentation has a good chance to become lighter in shade.
  3. If you want to stay away from hydroquinone creams, alternatively you can use natural plant extracts like kojic acid, arbutin, niacinamide and licorice. They have shown their abilities to disrupt the synthesis of melanin by interfering the tyrosinase activity.
  4. Despite the bad publicity this product receives due to racism, yet one ingredient that stands out is Ascophyllum nodosum. It is extracted from a brown algae. It has shown to inhibit the signal molecule ET-1, which stimulates the melanocyte and triggers tyrosinase activity.
