The 2016 presidential election comes to a close and Donald Trump becomes the next president of the United States by winning in shocking states.

  1. It's over. The tumultuous 2016 presidential election has finally come to an end. Hillary Clinton, the democratic candidate, was the favorite coming into this campaign. Yet Donald Trump was said to awaken a lulled beast of working-class, white men who cared about keeping or getting jobs within the United States.

  3. In the beginning of the night, all eyes were focused on Florida as it closed its polls early and shifted from red to blue until the very last vote, where it ultimately settled for a majority on Donald Trump.
  4. This election was the most divisive. The candidates were polar opposite, a woman who appealed to college-educated women and a man who appealed to non-college educated white men.
  5. Throughout the campaign, many scandals have arisen and have tainted the reputation of each candidate. Hillary Clinton's use of a private e-mail server has haunted her until days before the election. While an old video of Donald Trump talking about grabbing and kissing women without their consent.
  6. Michigan was also a state of interest. The state has not voted for a Republican since 1988. Hillary Clinton's trade policy did not appeal to the industrial state because many believed the deals would take away jobs.
  7. The candidates, however, barely spent time speaking about particular policies they had planned, so many voters based their choices on likability and whether they trust the candidate for the job.
  8. The night ended with Donald Trump claiming presidency after winning Florida, Michigan and Pennsylvania.
  9. But Clinton supporters were surprised and angry. They expressed their frustration and fear through a trending hashtag on Twitter, claiming Trump is #notmypresident
  10. Clinton allegedly conceding to Trump on the phone last night but has kept quiet. She is reported to speak in New York City at 9:30.
