Doctor Who Season 7 Episode 1 Premiere Buried in a Guardian profile of this year’s MGEITF (or the Media Guardian Edinburgh International Television Festival, if you prefer) is an interesting nugget dug out by SFX. Amidst the events of the TV festival, which runs from August 23rd to 25th, a very special screening is set to take place: episode 1 of Doctor Who season 7. According to The Guardian, “The Doctor Who showrunner, Moffat, will give a masterclass on BBC1's Sherlock, along with his co-creator, Mark Gatiss, and the producer, Sue Vertue, and there will be an exclusive preview screening of the first episode of the next series of Doctor Who.”

If you remember, episode 6.8 Let’s Kill Hitler, was previewed last year at the same Edinburgh festival, and screened on BBC just a day afterwards, so following that logic, could episode 7.1 air on UK TV on Saturday the 25th of August? The bank holiday weekend is considerably earlier than the Christmas date previously expected, but we're sure nobody Doctor Who Season 7 Episode 1 Premiere will complain about that...

Even though The Doctor was too busy (saving the universe) for a full appearance at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, fans of Doctor Who can finally set their clock (or TARDIS) for the show’s season seven premiere. After several weeks of uncertainty, BBC has confirmed that Doctor Who will return on September 1st in the US, UK, and Canada. Season seven, which coincides with Doctor Who‘s 50th Anniversary, is expected to be the biggest chapter in the long-running series – as the Time Lord faces the most dangerous question in the universe, “Doctor Who?” To celebrate the premiere date announcement, BBC has released a new trailer (which you can Doctor Who Season 7 Episode 1 Premiere check out above) as well as offered up some fun quotes from the showrunners Doctor Who Season 7 Episode 1 Premiere and cast.

We’ve posted the entire BBC press release, which includes the aforementioned quotes as well as synopses for the season’s first three episodes, on the second page of this post. That said, it’s a long read (around 4,000 words) and, as a result, we’ve pulled out a few of the more interesting tidbits for discussion below. As with any yet-to-be-aired show, the following post contains MILD SPOILERS for season seven of Doctor Who Season 7 Episode 1. If you’re attempting to avoid basic plot points for the upcoming episodes, turn away now.

Writer and executive producer, Steven Moffat, was pretty guarded when he spoke about Doctor Who season seven at Comic-Con 2012 but, as the premiere draws closer, it seems as though he’s opening up a bit more. Speaking about the season opener, “Asylum of the Daleks,” Moffat teased one of the show’s biggest episodes yet: It’s going to be tough to replace Amy and Rory, so the Clara character will have her work cut out for her. Though, it’s hard to argue with Smith’s assessment of the show - evolution and regeneration – especially considering it was just over two years ago that Whovians were having a hard time imagining a post-David Tennant Doctor Who. Doctor Who Season 7 Episode 1 Premiere While some fans refuse to embrace Smith’s eleventh Doctor, most viewers have warmed to the actor’s portrayal by now. Similarly, it’s been six years since fan-favorite companion Rose Tyler (Billie Piper) was replaced by Martha Jones (Freema Agyeman), who was replaced by Donna Noble (Catherine Tate) who was,

one season later, replaced by Amy Pond – proving that, as long as Coleman brings something fresh to the companion role as Clara and a fun dynamic with Smith’s Doctor, change (even on a much beloved show) can be a good thing. For those new to the TARDIS and not too familiar with the Daleks – they are debatably the most fearsome creatures the Doctor has ever faced. Created by the mad scientist Davros during the final years of a thousand-year war, the Daleks are cybernetic hybrids genetically modified and integrated within a Doctor Who Season 7 Episode 1 Premiere tank-like robotic mechanical shell, made from the original inhabitants of the planet Skaro, the Kaleds. Having every emotion genetically stripped from them except for hate, The Daleks turned against their creators to pretty much become the Nazis of space, by setting out to purge the Universe of all non-Dalek life.

In what is promised to be an “epic Dalek adventure,” “Asylum of the Daleks” is also said to feature “every Dalek ever” including legendary Special Weapons Daleks, which haven’t been seen since the late ’80s. The series 7 opener kicks off with the Doctor being captured by his old foes and taken to the long thought destroyed Dalek home-world, Skaro, where he is tasked with entering  a place that even terrify Doctor Who Season 7 Episode 1 Premiere the Daleks –  The Asylum, a snow covered planetary prison that confines the most disturbed and insane of the Dalek race.

If that wasn’t enough for one Time Lord to shoulder, the Doctor must also save the fractured relationship of his closest friends (and In-Laws) Amy and Rory before it’s too late. “Asylum of the Daleks” was recently screened at BFI Southbank on August 14th, and will also be a feature at the MediaGuardian Edinburgh International Television Festival this week Doctor Who" Season 7 will kick off on Sat., Doctor Who Season 7 Episode 1 Premiere Sept. 1 in both the US and UK. The season premiere will air at 9 p.m. ET on BBC America.

With Season 7 officially scheduled, it's time to say goodbye to Amy Pond and Rory. Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill depart the series in Episode 5, set in New York. "We have, I think, our biggest range of stories ever," series executive producer Steven Moffat said in a statement. "We've got the return of the Daleks and the Weeping Angels – both of them poll-topping Doctor Who adversaries – in cracking new stories, we’ve got Dinosaurs on a Spaceship (it’s what you’ve always wanted), we’ve got a glorious western with a Cyborg Gunslinger, the most unusual invasion Doctor Who Season 7 Episode 1 Premiere Earth story ever and location shooting in New York for the Pond finale.”
