#RedBalloonsForRyan released on Mother’s Day in memory of South Pasadena boy

People from across the nation continued to show support for the family of Ryan Cruz Saldana as they released red balloons in honor of his memory and Mother's Day throughout the weekend. The South Pasadena 3-year-old was struck and killed by a car May 2 in Alta Loma.

  1. The hashtag #RedBalloonsForRyan went viral the week after the boy's death. Along with family and friends of Ryan's parents Jacqui and Dan Saldana, strangers also used the hashtag to pour out sympathetic and supporting messages. A GoFundMe page started for the family had raised almost $60,000 as of Sunday evening.

  3. @babyboybakery....I spent the day with my family today (as most do) but you were in the back of my mind in everything that we did. I feel the proper words don't exist in a time like this. They just don't. Wish I could create a new language that best represents & expresses the frustration & pain that comes from something as horrible as this happening to you. To anyone. Wish I could fix it. I do full-heartedly believe he is there with you. In the breeze. In the warmth of the sun. In the drops of that perfect rain. He's there. Ryan's memory has made me hug my daughter a little tighter, made me have her walk a little closer, made me pause a little longer when she has been out of sorts.... He is beating in our hearts & in everything we will do from now on. I may not personally know you but years from now I will always remember you. And your Ryan. And the lessons I learned in all of this. Know you are loved. Know he is with you. Know you are not alone. You will forever be Ryan's mother. I humbly join you on this Mother's Day all the way from Philadelphia. With a strong shoulder. With hugs. With wine. With more wine. With love. And more love. ♥ #circlearoundjacqui #redballoonsforryan

  8. Words can not express how grateful we are for all you have done for us. It has been overwhelming, but we feel your love and appreciate your support. We've begun to read your emails and comments and are in awe of all the businesses who have created such beautiful things. We are shocked to see people around the world remembering our son. We have found a slice of comfort in all your condolences. We wish we could personally thank each and every one of you. // We are feeling strong while surrounded by our family and pray everyday for signs from our little boy. We do believe he is having a lot of fun in heaven, though we miss him so much it hurts. We feel your prayers. Every single one of you who has helped us in some way will always hold a special piece of our hearts. We say Thank You for coming together to remember our son. Love, Jacqui & Dan ❤️

  10. On this particular Mothers Day while I've had an amazing one there has been one momma and daddy that have stayed in my heart and on my mind today. Jacqui and Dan my thoughts and prayers are with you (and all those that are missing a mom or child). He heals the brokenhearted and bandages their wounds. Psalm 147:3. #redballonsforryan
