School fair celebrates all things cultural

  3. Principal Allan Weir was impressed with the record number of people who attended the fair which reached close to 4,000. He said this was a 25 percent increase from last year.

    “I am proud of the success of the fair, the students and teachers took on the initiative to showcase the gifts and talents we have at our school," he said.

    “The fair is not for fundraising but to engage with the community and celebrate our diverse student culture through fun, food, cultural performances and student-run stalls."
  4. Groves Christian College has more than 70 ethnicities and 50 language groups at the school and this was highlighted during the student performances.
  5. Community Fair organiser, Nerina Callaghan said the fair was a great way of celebrating student diversity which represented the local community.


  6. “I received numerous positive feedback about the fair from local families whose only connection to Groves is attending our annual fair," she said.

  7. “There are a lot of new migrants that have moved into the Logan area and the fair is a great way of connecting them with our school community."
  8. Students visiting from Japan also got to experience for the first time an Australian school fair.
  9. This included getting up close to meet some of Australia's fauna.
  10. The fair was officially opened at 1:15 pm by a Welcome to Country dance.
  11. Local, state and federal government members, Cr Russell Lutton, Cameron Dick MP and Jim Chalmers MP attended the official opening and had time to check out the stalls.
  12. There was a wearable art and cake decorating competition that showcased students' talents.
  13. The day ended with a spectacular fireworks display that lit up the skies of Kingston.
