- Because of a dangerous new Iowa law signed by Governor Terry Branstad, Planned Parenthood of the Heartland will be forced to close four health centers. Closing those Planned Parenthood health centers will leave more than 14,600 women without the health care they depend on in Quad Cities, Burlington, Keokuk, and Sioux City.
- The Iowa law is similar to federal legislation that passed the U.S. House earlier this month called the American Health Care Act, which repeals the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and blocks patients from care at Planned Parenthood. The nationwide legislation is now with the Senate. Embedded in the ACA repeal bill is a provision that would bar Medicaid patients from accessing birth control, cancer screenings, and other care at Planned Parenthood — with dangerous consequences for millions of its patients.
Planned Parenthood patients and supporters took to Twitter to share their outrage on the devastation.
