Eboo Patel speaks at Willson Lectureship

Patel joined the Texas Wesleyan University campus on Tuesday as the speaker for the 2017 Wilson Lectureship.

  1. The Wilson Lectureship is an endowed speaker series at Texas Wesleyan that was established in 1946 by Mr. J.M. Willson and Mrs. D.M. Willson, and family, according to txwes.edu.
  2. Eboo Patel, Ph.D., founder and president of Interfaith Youth Core, a national nonprofit working to make interfaith cooperation a part of everyday life, joined the Texas Wesleyan campus on Tuesday evening as the speaker for the 2017 Wilson Lectureship.
  3. Patel spoke at 7 p.m. in Nicholas Martin Hall to the public and was followed by a book signing.
  4. According to the Wesleyan website, President Frederick Slabach said Patel's national movement for interfaith cooperation is closely intertwined with Wesleyan's religious ideals.
  5. "I hope our students and entire campus community will be inspired by Patel's leadership and desire to create positive attitudes toward religious diversity," President Frederick Slabach said.
  6. The entire Wesleyan community and the public were just as excited to welcome Patel as President Slabach anticipated.

  8. Patel also served on President Obama's Inaugural Faith Council and holds a doctorate in the sociology of religion from Oxford University, according to ifyc.org.
  9. Patel is the author of Acts of Faith, Sacred Ground and Interfaith Leadership.
