Most of the experts of the e-commerce industry say that excessive packaging has started to annoying consumers. Now people are well aware of the poor impacts of excessive packaging and they really don’t want it to be there. They don’t want their parcels to be wrapped with extra payers of packaging material. It’s really good to see that how environment conscious is today’s world but it certainly raise a question about the environmental concerns of e-commerce companies. The packaging behavior of these companies should be environment friendly.
According to a survey around two third of the total consumers believe that the packages they get are having more than required packaging. They find it an absolute waste of resources and a step against environmental concerns. When the whole world is trying to find new ways to preserve the environment, e-commerce companies should also think seriously about it. Most of the consumers that participated in the survey expressed their resentment with the companies using excessive packaging unnecessarily and said that they don’t want to deal with such companies. They want to purchase stuff from only those stores and companies which use only a reasonable amount of packaging material, not even a thread beyond that.
Consumers shared some very weird experiences during the survey, one of which is really very important to mention here. A consumer ordered an umbrella through an e-commerce site and he was surprised to receive the delivery. The box in which his umbrella was sent, was big enough to accommodate around twenty such umbrellas. It was really a very bad use of resources. No customer would like such a miserable attack against ecology. Also it adds to the efforts of the consumer towards disposing packaging material. Thus the use of extra packaging material deteriorates the overall experience of the customer and very rare chances remain that he or she would select the same company again.
Moreover, it’s very difficult to understand that why e-commerce companies are so much attracted towards this excessive packaging practice. Besides causing harm to the environment, it also makes the companies to pay more than the required costs. Companies can reduce their packaging costs by up-to 66 percent. It’s quite a significant reduction. Packaging costs supposes to be one of the biggest expenses of e-commerce companies. Even the slightest reduction can make big differences, and here we are talking about 66 percent. So it’s in favor of all to use only a reasonable amount of packaging material.
However, e-commerce companies have also started to realize its importance and they are really making moves in this direction. Most of the biggest e-commerce sites are now delivering their products in appropriate packaging making better use of the resources available to them.
