Visit Lataguri, the Doorway to the Densest Forestland in North Bengal

  1. Lataguri is a small village located in the Doars region of North Bengal. The Dooars is a narrow stretch of forested land that lies just above the fertile Gangetic plains of West Bengal. Lataguri is a place that has redefined tranquility and its deep and dark mysterious forest still holds its virgin charm. It’s a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of city life. The place easily evokes a sense of adventure, mystery and wonder.

Some hotels offer vehicles on rent for exclusive forest safaris into the Park which is an amazing experience. If you are visiting Lataguri through travel agencies then they arrange for a permit from the West Bengal Tourism Department to visit the Park. The forest is also known for different varieties of flora such as teak, sal, and khair covering the entire woodland. Other interesting places nearby are Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary- a haven for migratory European birds, the renowned Buxa Fort that houses Tibetan refugees, Rovers Point and Jayanti Mahakal - a place of tourist attraction to explore and trek along the border of Bhutan. A Nature Interpretation Centre located in Lataguri offers abundant information about the extensive flora and fauna of the region. Several new resorts and bungalows and budget lodges have cropped up here to cater to the huge influx of tourists. From luxurious log cabins to humble forest cottages, you find everything for all budgets along with very hospitable service and well furnished rooms.

    The best time to visit Lataguri is winter and autumn and do book your accommodation in advance to avoid harassment. Lataguri can be reached by road from Siliguri through Malbazar and Chalsa. It is only 2 hours journey through the National Highway. The nearest railway station is New Jalpaiguri Station and nearest airport is Bagdogra Airport, both of which are well connected with other parts of India.
