  1. Blessed with an abundance of natural vegetation and wildlife, Rishyap is one place where peace prevails in every corner. This is a place that could inspire nature lovers, photographers, writers, painters and even filmmakers. Residing at a height of 8500 ft in the lap of Neora Valley it is known to be the richest biological zones in the entire region of north-eastern India.

    Rishyap is also famous for its fabulous 180˚ view of Mt. Kanchenjunga and a 360˚ view of other mountain ranges around such as Talung, Khang-Chen-D-Zongha, Kokthang, Pandim, Mt.Kharg, Siniolchu, Rathung, Simvo, Kabroo and Narsingh.Two other peaks that lie close to these are Panhundri and Khanchangyao and below them rests the glacier named "Khangse" which is known as the source of the river Teesta.Mountain passes like Nathula, Jelepla, Batungla and Clola can also be viewed from here. Rishyap boasts of a wealth of flora and fauna and the dense and dark forest here supports a uniquely combined ecosystem which includes tropical, sub-tropical, temperate and sub-temperate systems together. Therefore, a variety of trees and plants can be spotted hereoaks, Sal, ferns, and bamboo, rhododendron and evergreen trees such as Pine, Fir, Birch, and rare orchids. Stepping into the woods you will realize that the air never seems to be quiet with the buzzing of insects and thousands of birds tweeting around which feels like an orchestra at play.

    The inaccessible terrain in few areas has left this place undisturbed and shelters rare animals like the endangered Red Panda, Clouded Leopard and Musk Deer. If you are trekking your way to the Neora valley National Park you may spot the Himalayan flying squirrel, leopard cat, sloth bear or the civet and goral. Bird watching is also a prominent activity here as varied species of rare birds such as Crimson-breasted woodpecker, Brown-wood owl and Fire-tailed Sunbird visit the region.Other places of interest in Rishyap which will keep you hooked and your camera clicking away are Lava Jamgyong Kongtrul Monastery, Neora Valley Nature Interpretation Center, and Kagyu Thekchen monastery and Changay Falls. You can also go for trekking down the hills to the picturesque hillside villages of Pedong and Lolegaon nearby.However, the center of attraction in Rishyap is ‘Tiffin Dara’. This village provides an excellent panoramic view of Mt. Kanchenjunga, a grand view which one would surely not want to miss as the Sun rises and sets over its snow laden peaks.

    Rishyap can be visited between March and May. The road to Rishyap takes only half an hour from Lava (Lepcha village) to reach (11 kms) through Siliguri. You can also reach Rishyap via Kalimpong, the nearest town. Nearest railway station is New Jalpaiguri Station.
