  1. Lataguri is a small village located in the Doars region of North Bengal. The Doars is a narrow stretch of forested land that lies just above the fertile Gangetic plains of West Bengal. It falls under the Jalpaiguri district and is a famous spot frequented by tourists from all over the world. The plethora of flora and fauna of this region have inspired and intrigued many naturalists, filmmakers, musicians and photographers who have captured the essence of this region in their masterpieces for over decades.

It’s considered to be the gateway to the famous Gorumara National park which lies along its eastern border on NH 31. The village stands on the fringes of this forest and has gained popularity due to the huge biodiversity of this forest.     There are many interesting places to visit from Lataguri such as the Gorumara National Park which is located at the confluence of river Murti and river Jaldhaka. It is well-known as the home of the Great Prehistoric Indian One Horned Rhinoceros. It also has different varieties of flora such as teak, sal, and khair and other varieties of animals. Many resorts and nearby hotels offer vehicles that take you into the Park on forest safaris to the Watch Towers. From these watch towers you can watch the wild animals like elephants, Bisons and deers in their natural habitat. Other places of attraction nearby are Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary- a haven for migratory European birds, the renowned Buxa Fort that houses Tibetan refugees, Rovers Point and Jayanti Mahakal- a place of tourist attraction to explore and trek along the border of Bhutan. A Nature Interpretation Centre located in Lataguri offers abundant information about the flora and fauna of the region.

    Lataguri can be reached by road from Siliguri through Malbazar and Chalsa. It is only 2 hrs. Journey if you take this route through the National Highway. The nearest railway station is New Jalpaiguri Station and nearest airport is Bagdogra Airport, both of which are well connected with other parts of India. Lataguri boasts of a pleasant climate through the year, however, best time to visit the village is November to April during which the animals in the forests come out to laze in the sun and you might get to click them in a rare moment. Lataguri will surely remain etched in your memory as a place worth visiting a second time.
