Want to be an anxious red panda?

I'm writing a book on social anxiety, illustrated with red pandas. I need inspiration for the red pandas!

  1. I need people - anxious people! I'm looking for folks who will lend their likeness to my project, and talk to me a little about their experience with social anxiety! Very shortly I'll be using  redpandasbookofanxiety.wordpress.com , but while I get that set up, I thought I'd make a Storify to put everywhere.
  2. WHAT ARE YOU GETTING INTO?
  3. There are two things that I'll be asking from you, if you choose to get involved in the Red Panda's Book of Anxiety. First, I'll send you a little questionairre about yourself and how your red panda will be drawn in the book. Later on, after I've organized all my examples and figured out where I'll use your red panda, I'll contact you again to ask you about your own experience with anxiety.
  4. (There will be some stuff in there that relates to anxiety in general, and some other related disorders. So if you don't have SA but do want to participate, let me know!)
  5. Read about the project below, and then you can contact me at the following places: (Note: Please put "Red Panda's Book of Social Anxiety" in the title.)

  8. WHAT IS THIS BOOK?
  9. Red Panda's Book of Social Anxiety is a guide to dismantling social anxiety and rebuilding it into something more helpful. It will explain a little of what social anxiety is, as well as providing some coping techniques, info on types of therapy, and a short dictionary of social interactions.
  10. The main focus of the book is figuring out why you personally have social anxiety: observing it, analysing it, and totally taking it apart - then using what you've learned to totally rock at life. (Or at least get through your day without being in agony.)
  11. WHY IS THIS BOOK?
  12. I have social anxiety. It's taken a lot of work, and things aren't perfect for me, but I've managed to become a functional human being. I've done this by methodically observing how social anxiety works, researching it, and experimenting with different things. It's been so hard because by nature, social anxiety doesn't interact well with the usual things that are meant to tease out problems. How can you talk to a therapist if you can't talk or meet new people?
  13. This all would have been much easier if I had been able to find someone who could see what was going on, and could then tell me, "No, see, here's what's going on. Here's what you do." Someone who could go up to other people and say, "Look, here's what's going on. This is how everyone can function together, and make everything okay!" That person is very rare to encounter, so instead I want to shoot for the next best thing: a guide that people without help can use to fix their own problems.
  14. WHEN WILL THIS BOOK?
  15. I am aiming for the end of NaNoWriMo - and I intend to use that month to edit like the dickens!
  16. HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?
  17. In order that people who need it can get it easily, this book will be available for free as a download. There will be an optional donation, as well as options to order a printed copy. Any donated funds will go towards further projects.
  18. FURTHER PROJECTS?
  19. I've got other projects in mind to follow this one.
  20. First is a complete dictionary of social interactions. There will be a smaller one inside this book, but I want to take the time to have a comprehensive list that people can flip through and use in their daily life - something that explains all those unwritten rules that most people don't ever think about. I would like to eventually make this into an app and website as well as a paper book.
