  7. Go MSU Greeks! Video:  MSU students rally to help classmate with cancer MOREHEAD, Ky. (WYMT) - Students at Morehead State University are raising money and spreading awareness after one of their classmates was diagnosed with leukemia. Morehead State senior Liza Angelicchio was diagnosed with acute lymphoid leukemia late last year. "It just happened so fast and went in to it thinking it was just blood clots on her lung, not anything too serious," said Natalie Angelicchio, Liza's sister. "Then we found out that it was cancer." In response, students have organized several events to raise money and awareness for Liza's situation. Volunteers spent Thursday signing people up to be potential bone marrow donors. "We just want people to go out and register and to be donors for people everywhere," said Natalie. "It will save people's lives." The process to sign up for the registry could not be simpler. All you have to do is swab the inside of your mouth, and then fill out some paperwork and you are all set. University officials say over 100 people signed up for the donor registry, and more than $1,200 have been raised to help with Liza's treatment. They say MSU's campus community always rallies when others are in need. "I think our students really have that empathy and compassion for one another, and it's part of the spirit of Morehead State University," said Ricardo Nazario-Colon, Director of Student Activities at MSU. With today's signup, school officials say they are optimistic many more cancer patients will get the lifesaving bone marrow transplants they need. Family members say Liza is responding well to treatment and is scheduled to receive a bone marrow transplant of her own at the end of the month. You can add your name to the donor list as well. Go to for more information. NOT IN THE REPORT: Liza Angelicchio is a Chi Omega at MSU. IFC and Panhellenic raised $1,250 toward this project with a two-day series of friendly volleyball and basketball competitions in the name of the the #Lizastrong campaign. Sales of wrist bands also helped generate dollars to offset Liza’s medical costs. Sales of the wrist bands continue—they are $3.00 each. Delta Tau Delta won the volleyball games, Chi Omega won the basketball in the women’s bracket and Sigma Alpha Epsilon won in the men’s. Teams paid $25 in each sport to compete.
