The president, two ferns & some laughs

President Obama caused a stir when he agreed to appear on Between Two Ferns with comedian Zach Galifinakis.

  1. It all started with the president sitting down between those infamous bits of shrubbery with the Hangover star. Then they both started cracking wise as the president aggressively plugged the Affordable Health Care Act to the young Galifinakis fans.

  3. There were some who thought that the whole routine was a riot.
  4. There were some who thought that it was ridiculous.
  5. Yet no one could dispute the fact that, by appearing on the edgy, Funny or Die internet spot, President Obama's stunt went viral, spreading info about the Affordable Health Care Act -- which is in dire need of young enrolleees -- along the way, in between all the snark.
  6. Advertising Age called it a "smart marketing play" and said, "... Obama's generally aloof attitude works well as he insults Galifianakis in return. It's hard to imagine Bill Clinton or George W. Bush convincingly playing both calm and peeved."

    However, writer Ken Wheaton added, "But putting aside funny and that this was likely filmed weeks ago, it still irked me that amid international crisis the president's playing cute for a web video.
