This week at Donalda School ... November 6-10

Quality Education in a Caring Environment

  1. Greetings Donalda School community,
  2. What an incredible week! I would like to start by congratulating both the boys and girls teams for their excellent performance in the CARA tournaments. The boys team won the consolation tournament at CARA. This is no small feat considering the team was largely made up of grade 5 and 6 students. The future is definitely bright. The girls team won the 'A' side of the tournament and advanced to CWAJHAA. I was amazed at the ferocity of the attacks in the finals match. It was fun to watch the young eaglets enthusiastically cheering on the team.
  3. On Tuesday and Wednesday, the grade 7/8/9 students travelled to Calgary for a WE Day celebration. The WE Movement inspires students to think about how they can make a positive impact in the local communities and the world and then take action. At this event, we were able to hear some powerful speakers such as Rick Hansen and George Takei. This week we will be creating action goals.
  4. On Friday, we will be packing Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes for our Fun Friday activities. There are two ways that students can bring materials. 1) They can bring items such as toys, hygiene products, school supplies, and clothes, and place these items in the bins at the front of the school. Students will then use these items to pack boxes on Friday 2) Students can pack a shoebox themselves. On Monday, we will have shoeboxes available for students to take home and pack. Please remember that all items must be new and no liquids.
  5. On Saturday, we will be taking students to the Camrose Kodiaks hockey game. Please have the permission slips in by Monday. This helps as we organize busing. If you like to purchase tickets for the game, please contact the Kodiaks ticket office at 780-679-2603. They are expecting a big crowd so please book your tickets ahead of time.
  6. I would like to wish Sheila Norman all the best as she changes roles in Clearview School Division. She has taken a position at Stettler Elementary School and Donalda School parents, students, and staff will miss her. She starts her position on Monday at SES but she will come back to Donalda School on Fun Friday to do some library training with other staff members and say goodbyes.
  7. Let me close with some pictures from the week.
