This week at Donalda School ... February 5-9

Quality Education in a Caring Environment

  1. Greetings,
  2. I am trying to clear my Sunday schedule so I can watch the Super Bowl, so the weekly newsletter is showing up a day early.
  3. This upcoming week is very exciting for the school. We are kicking off the Donalda School Nutrition program. We are merging the talents of our Grade 7/8/9 students with Teresa's Catering and this incredible team will be preparing free weekly lunch meals on Tuesdays starting this week. The goal of this program is to have Donalda School students create delicious and nutritious meals for the school and build all students understanding of nutrition. On Tuesday, the menu will be: hamburger vegetable soup, whole wheat grilled cheese rollups, and apple slices with Greek yoghurt dip. If your child is not interested in this meal, they will need to bring their own lunch. Please contact me if allergies are an issue and we will try our best to accommodate.
  4. Winter is back in full force. All the white stuff will make recess time most enjoyable. With the added snow, we will open up the hill for tobogganing again. Starting on Monday, students can bring their sleds back to school. With the number of students using the hill, we ask that students do not bring GTs or standup sleds.
  5. We have some exciting new technology in the school. Clearview School Division has loaned us a ZSpace to try for a few weeks. This piece of technology allows students to see objects in augmented reality / virtual reality. I am hoping that we will still have it in the school for the School Council Meeting in February so parents can try it out.
  6. On the sports front, this is the big week for our Donalda School Curling teams. They practice on Thursday and the big CARA bonspiel will be on Friday in Stettler. Good luck Team Seale and Team Dixon!
  7. It is a full week of basketball as well. The Grade 4 students are chomping at the bit to get some games in. On Monday, the Grade 4/5/6 students who are apart of the mini -dunkers program or the junior high team will travel to Stettler for a 3 on 3 competition. Details are below.
  8. There will be no boys' basketball practice on Monday with the SES competition. On Tuesday, the girls' will practice after school and the junior high teams will travel to Erskine on Wednesday for CARA league games. Students will travel by bus leaving at 2:15 pm.
  9. A new newspaper club has emerged at the school and they are producing some great work. Check out their first publication.
  10. Ski Trip forms are out. You can sign up your child for the trip two different ways: 1) using KEV (all forms can be completed on KEV) or paper copy with a cheque. Please have this completed by Thursday.
