This week at Donalda School ... May 8 - 12

Quality Education in a Caring Environment

  1. Greetings Donalda School community!
  2. We had an incredible week of badminton. Congratulations to all our players who went to CARA and competed. I was amazed at how competitive our teams were. Congrats to Rachel Seale and Morgyn Fuller for winning the grade 8 girls doubles CARA championship and Sarah Swedberg for winning the grade 7 girls singles. These three girls will be competing in the CWAJHAA championships in Red Deer this week. I would like to thank Mr. Brown and Mrs. Petersen for all their work. They started badminton early and they worked hard on improving the skills of the players. Your hard work has definitely paid off.
  3. I would like to thank Deanna Bartlett and the 5-C club for educating the school about Mental Health.
  4. Drama practices for the grade 4-6 students continue on Monday and Thursday after school.
  5. Grade 6 and 9 students begin writing Provincial Achievement Tests this week.
  6. Hot Lunch forms go out on Tuesday and they are due back on Friday.
  7. Start Right (playschool) continues this week on Monday and Wednesday. On Wednesday, there will be a Mother's day tea.
  8. During the past two weeks, I have been spending a considerable amount of time working on the 2017 / 2018 Donalda School Budget. It was definitely a more challenging budget for our school. Due to government changes in Small School By Necessity Grants and by capping High School Credit Units, added technology expenses and a decrease in students, Donalda School has about $40 000 less for next year. As you can see from the spring budget below, supplies and support staff hours were reduced the most. I would like to take some time at the May School Council meeting to go through these reductions and how they will impact our school.
  9. Camp Teckla only has about 20 more spots available. If you are interested in enrolling in this basketball camp, please check out the link and register soon. You can also talk to Julie Siemens if you would like more information.
