Statistics provide that freshmen are not well-prepared for college-level writing. There were even studies which conclude that more than 75 percent of high school graduates are not proficient writers. These figures do not lie. This is the reality, a sad one.

So, ask yourself this question, “Are you one of the high school graduates who cannot write proficiently?” If you cannot yet give an answer, then read on. Let’s see if you are already ready for college writing.

When writing a paper in college, whether it is just a simple essay or free essay papers, it has to be up to collegiate standards. Your style and writing techniques must exceed the high school standards that you were used to. So, how will you determine if you can meet higher standards?

Check your essay for grammatical errors, misspelling, or misuse of punctuation marks. You have to remember that your essay will still be judged on the correct use of the language. We can say that you are ready for college writing if you only have minimal grammatical errors. But if you still do not master the subject-verb agreement and other principles, then you have to review a lot. 

Sentence and paragraph construction is also an indicator. When you write an essay, you tend to write down all the ideas from your mind, even the unnecessary ones. We can tell that you are ready for college writing if you have the ability to avoid making awkward and super complex sentences. As much as possible, write short but concise sentences.

Originality matters in college writing. Perhaps, when you were in high school, you have copied some content  from other articles and include it your output. If you do this in college, you’re dead! College professors are very strict when it comes to plagiarism. The latter is an act of stealing someone’s intellectual property. If you will be caught by your professor, you may get a failing grade, a suspension, or worst, you can be kicked out of the university if you deliberately plagiarized. 

So, ask yourself once again, are you ready for college writing?
