- The New York Times took notice and had the smarts to interview the author/actor on this creative work.
- Famous artists and celebrities have chimed in to express their thoughts.
- And then there are the book reviews. Writing for the New York Times Sunday Book Review, Teddy Wayne said, "The melancholy sensibility and verbal élan elevate Novak’s book beyond a small-beer exercise in clever monkeyshines and into a stiff literary cocktail, with a healthy pour of vintage Woody Allen and a dash of George Saunders strained through a Donald Barthelme sieve — droll and smart in spades, but often humane and vulnerable, too."
'One More Thing,' by B. J. Novak
Before you dismiss B. J. Novak's debut fiction collection, "One More Thing," as the latest example of a Hollywood actor's trespassing into the far more glamorous and affluent gated community of short stories, read his humor piece "If I Had a Nickel."- Everyone who picks up this book is going to have their personal favorite. The story that lingers most with me is "Sophia," a public statement from the guy who returns the world's first artificially intelligent robot--the first robot capable of feeling love--to the manufacturer because it wasn't what he ordered. It's an achingly honest confession from a jerk many can relate to.Everyone will have their least favorite, too. For layman reviews, scroll through the opinions posted to GoodReads.
One More Thing
I'm not finished yet, but I'm still laughing at the first review I read for this on Amazon. The reader gave it one star and wrote something like, "I dont get it at al." (misspellings included.) I can't help but think it was BJ himself reviewing his own book.- If you are still not convinced you should read this book, take a test-read with the vignette the New Yorker published.
