  1. A quick summary of the workshop as seen through the tweets of participants. (Also an experiment in storifying - what did I really say? What did the audience really hear?)
Here's the description from the program:
Building an academic and professional persona online Steven Lubar and Ian Russell, Brown University
It’s important for new and emerging professionals to create and manage their web personas, their personal brands. It’s a way to meet people and keep up with ongoing discussions in your field. It’s also essential in finding job opportunities and getting hired. This workshop will introduce the professional use of twitter, blogs, networking tools like LinkedIn and Academia.edu, online portfolio tools like wix.com, and sharing sites like scribd.com and slideshare.net. Aimed at academic and public humanists. For more information, see our blog post.

And from that blog post, some sites that might be of interest on this topic:
Profhacker, part 1 and part 2
Lorcan Dempsey’s presentation for University of Pittsburgh
Kim Brabour and David Marshall, at First Monday
  2. I like that line!
  3. I stole that line from someone... thanks!
  4. (Not part of my session, but a good idea. I didn't know that.) And now back to persona...
  5. I think that's true. But balanced, as Ian said later, by the need to think about career, and publications; some material you need to keep closed until you publish, perhaps.
  6. True! His website (ianaldenrussell.com/) worth a visit. Take a look and come back to the storify...
  7. (This in response to Ian's point that academic work done in a public institutions (e.g., Irish universities) should be made available to a wide public.
