YoCo Dates Photos with the Ottawa Jewish Archives, Part 2: Salted Paper Prints
The Bytown Museum Youth Council recently hosted guest speaker, Saara Mortensen, archivist from the Ottawa Jewish Archives to learn about the history of photography and techniques for determining the age of a photo.
The daguerreotype never caught on in England as it cost more there than in the rest of the world. This was because Daguerre's rival, Henry Fox Talbot worked on his own paper-based photographic process. The rivalry of who invented modern photography - Daguerre or Talbot - continues to this day.
