Debunking and Defunding:Planned Parenthood

Since the recent election of the 45th president of the United States of America, there has been widespread discussion over whether or not the infamous Roe v. Wade will be overturned, and Planned Parenthood (the site of abortions, among other preventative care) will no longer be funded by gov't.

  1. Here is an example of a tweet supporting the actions and practices of Planned Parenthood, which have long since been questioned by religious groups, governmental factions, and individuals alike.
  2. After hearing word about Trump choosing to defund Planned Parenthood by signing an executive order prohibiting U.S. tax payer funding to groups that promote/perform abortions overseas, the Netherlands decided to dedicate $10 million dollars to pay for abortions internationally.
  3. The quote, "nasty woman", printed loudly on this black v-neck shirt represents the contingent of women who are against Trump and his policies/beliefs. The term is ironically used and references the comment Trump made about Hillary Clinton during the third and final debate.
  4. Planned Parenthood Supporter vs. Christian
  5. The title of this video particularly insults me. I'm a devout Christian Protestant who is also pro-choice. I believe that a woman should be entitled to her OWN reproductive rights and that it is nobody else's business, man or woman, what she decides to do with her body. This title has the implication that ALL Christians are Pro-Life.
  6. This picture addresses the Pro-life advocacy group, Live Action, who teamed up with members of the ending of taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider. Representative Trent Franks believes that no organization has deceived the world more than Planned Parenthood.
  7. Planned Parenthood Marches On Capital - Both Sides Of The Debate
  8. Above is a video presenting live footage from a women's march on Washington in support of Planned Parenthood. This group of peaceful protesters main goal is to push for the continued funding of Planned Parenthood, which has helped millions of females worldwide receive proper gynecological care among other things. This video helps present both sides of the argument. That is, who is for and who is pro-life and who is pro-choice.
  9. To conclude this story I chose to use a tweet I found particularly powerful and meaningful. Many of those who identify as pro-life argue that those without children of their own can't fully own the right to identify as pro-choice. More importantly, those who are pro-choice can also not morally be in support of abortions. As someone who is pro-choice, it's not as if I am advocating for an excess of abortions. Rather, I am arguing for the right to undergo such a procedure under special circumstances (such as if the patient has been raped, has used drugs/alcohol while unknowingly pregnant, etc.)
