  2. Ava DuVernay is an award winning director who most recently directed an episode of the hit television series Scandal. Ava's 2011 film, I Will Follow, was hailed by Roger Ebert as, “one of the best films I’ve seen about the loss of a loved one.” Her 2012 follow up, Middle of Nowhere, won her the Best Director award at Sundance. Ava, who is also a documentarian, has directed documentaries on Venus Williams' fight for pay equality in professional tennis, and the L.A. hip-hop scene. She is the founder of the African-American Film Festival Releasing Movement.
