Flash Flooding in Midland and Odessa, Texas

Early morning, slow-moving rains drenched the majority of southwest Texas' Permian Basin on Friday. Several inches of rain fell in just a few hours leading to quickly-rising waters on area roadways. Numerous water rescues took place as residents were caught up in the dangerous floodwaters.

According to the City of Midland, the locations of Scharbauer & Main st., Big Spring & Missouri Ave., Andrews Highway & the Loop 250 overpass, A st. & Scharbauer Dr. are experiencing heavy flooding. MFD is experiencing high call volume regarding vehicles stalling in these areas and recommends that they should avoid these areas during their commute. There are also school delays/closures. Check with local media for a specific listing. If you must drive, use with extreme caution in Midland, Ector, Howard and Martin counties this morning as reports of several water rescues have been made. This flooding is a potentially life-threatening situation.

  4. Impressive rain fall totals as of 7:45 AM, with over 2.5 " of rain at Midland International and just under 2.5 " in Ector County. These storms are forecast to continue to develop over the Permian Basin and move east around 10 mph.   10. 2 hour delay for Miss Olivia and the rest of Midland ISD this morning. Streets are flooded pretty badly here. I am very thankful for the rain and the extra hour of sleep! However, we are under flash flood warning until Saturday morning! I already cannot see my curb!
