Fort Wayne Athletics is constantly working to improve itself. In the past year, it has adapted to the IPFW split and, as reported by the Journal Gazette, it is getting by with funding below the average of its category in the NCAA.
One of the ways in which Fort Wayne Athletics is pushing forward is by taking initiative to frontline fundraising efforts to its programs. The third Mastodon Run 4 Scholarships took place on Sunday, September 10, at IPFW's Gates Athletics Center. Ran and staffed by Fort Wayne Athletics, it is aimed at raising moeny for athletics scholarships by engaging the community in healthy activities such as running. The event was advertised by those working the event and other deartments of the larger IPFW community.
The event began at 2:30 p.m., accepting registrations up to the last minute before events.
It kicked off with opening remarks and the national anthem, to give sequence to the four events of the day: The 5K Run/Walk, the 1 Mile Family Walk, the 100 meter Kids' Dash, and the 400 meter Kids' Stomp.
The four events were completed between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. Aftewards, participants were invited to return to the inside of the Gates Fielhouse, get hidrated and eat some fruit, to wait for the awards ceremony.
With the conclusion of awards, participants started drifting away, leaving behind student athletes tearing down the decoration, organizing a bunch of leftover bananas, and celebrating the completion of the event.
Participants posted on social media about their expereince on the races, and the response was overwhelmingly positive.
