Praxis and Poetics 2013

This is the musings of two fairly useless middle-aged, short, men who joined the Research Through Design conference in the Baltic sometime in the early 21st century. This is what we heard and saw. #praxisandpoetics

  1. What a wonderful conference. As a good friend said "It's the best conference in years".

On arrival we knew that something just a little bit special was on it's way with the hand-made origami conference badges.
  2. And the event was kicked off by the keynote  Patrick Jordan riffing on the lessons designers can learn from positive psychology
  3. Followed by the conference dinner (nice beetroot risotto) and an early night for us - we had a keynote to prepare...
  4. And a typical Gateshead sunny sky greeted us for day 2.
  5. Oh and some [meat] rolls (unhappy face from two veggies...)
  6. And into our first talk of the day.
AND WHAT A TALK. Boom. Research community meet the pioneer of digital physical....
  7. And I knew Rachel was amazing at the digital physical with electroluminescent structures.. but the thinking behind bringing traditional craft practitioners into their studio to inspire what they do is very cool.

  9. Then seeing her work branch into communities and food production is sensitive, appropriate and ahead of the curve.
