  1. People who do jobs that require a lot of repetitive motion, or athletes have one thing in common, injuries to the limbs. Whether that is the knee, the ankle, the wrist, the elbow or the shoulder, they suffer many injuries that often may require the skill of an orthopedic surgeon to fix. One of the many problems that often end up in the doctor's office is that of the rotator cuff. For a lot of rotator cuff issues or other shoulder problems, repairing will require Shoulder Surgeons. Here are some of the difficulties of the shoulder that require these surgeons.

The rotator cuff is perhaps one of the more common injuries because it is constantly being put in motion. It aids in lifting the arm and rotating it. It also establishes the ball of the shoulder. Easily, constant motion of the joint will eventually lead to tears or other problems. A baseball pitcher or a mechanic who is constantly moving the joint can easily cause problems with the rotator. The rotator cuff can be torn by a sudden, sharp injury or by wear and tear over a period of time.

By the time orthopedic surgeons are called upon to repair the rotator or other shoulder issues, the injuries have become so severe that surgery will indeed be required. Nonetheless, the shoulder surgeon will do a diagnostic exam to study the extent of the injury. It may be that the injury can be fixed without surgery. The patient may be able to do fine with naproxen, ibuprofen, or steroid injections, combined with physical therapy.

The orthopedic surgeon may also need to be seen for possible hand injuries that might require Hand Surgery. Problems could stem from hand or finger fractures, nerve injuries, carpal tunnel syndrome or even arthritis in the hand. Only the hand surgeon can tell for sure if the condition will require surgery or if something less extensive can be done. Whatever problems you may experience with any of the joints, from the shoulders all the way down to the feet, you can be sure an orthopedic surgeon will have some sort of treatment for it.
