Remembering the 2017 GPS and ISP Alumni Weekend Reunion

Alumni from the UC San Diego School of Global Policy and Strategy (GPS) and the International Studies Program (ISP) returned to campus on June 10, 2017, for an annual reunion as part of UC San Diego’s Alumni Weekend. Here, we chronicle the affair in social media posts from the day.

  1. Rolling in around noon, nearly 120 alumni attended the 2017 reunion.
  2. The celebration was hosted in the School's courtyard, a natural gathering place for students today that in decades prior even served as the stage for GPS commencement ceremonies attended by some of the alumni appearing here.
  3. Awakening their alma mater's roots in the Pacific region, Asayake Taiko — a Japanese drumming group at UC San Diego — drummed up the energy and entertainment for the event ahead of its formal program.
  4. Beginning with a welcome by Gordon Hanson, the acting dean kicked off a lunchtime talk for alumni by providing an address on the state of the School and ISP, as well as a nod to its 2017 Outstanding Alumna Tamar Koosed '09.
  5. GPS Career Services Director David Robertson, who nominated Koosed for the award, provided a few kind remarks ahead of Koosed's acceptance speech, which was streamed via Facebook Live.

  8. And by the day's end, GPS and ISP alumni had not only reminisced over old memories but made many new ones ...
