- "When Genocide is Permissible." That's the phrase that quickly got trending on Twitter Friday after the Times of Israel published an op-ed under that headline...and then removed it.
- "The contents of this post have been removed for breaching The Times of Israel's editorial guidelines," a note in its place later said.
- A spokeswoman further elaborated, telling The Independent: "The blog post, which was both damnable and ignorant, was uploaded by a blogger. It was removed by the Times of Israel for breaching our editorial guidelines. The blog has been discontinued."
- The Five Towns Jewish Times in New York — said to have been founded by the father of the author, Yochanan Gordon — also ran the piece. They later removed it as well, and put up this note:
"An article that was posted earlier today on our website dealt with the question of genocide in a most irresponsible fashion. We reject any such notion or discussion associated with even entertaining the possibility of such an unacceptable idea.The piece should have been rejected out of hand by editors but escaped their proper attention. We reject such a suggestion unequivocally and apologize for the error."
- Gordon may be just about the only one who stands by the work. An unverified Twitter account under his name — apparently brand new — sent a link to a pdf of his op-ed:
