Volunteers' Journal

Welcome to the EVS4ALL Volunteers' Journal where our volunteers tell their personal stories and share impressions from their stay abroad. Every voluntary experience is unique and told from a personal point of view, moderated by our social media expert Robert. Feel free to explore and share!

  1. VOLUNTEERS IN PROFILE

  2. All EVS4ALL volunteers are back home and the project is about to end, but meanwhile we have finished these very genuine interviews. We visited Madrid, Stuttgart and Bernburg to get to know our volunteers and to talk about their visions, challenges and learnings. So just see for yourself, what Ana-Maria, Aneta, Cristina, Gabriela, Justyna, Roxana and Violta have to say about their service abroad.

  8. VOLUNTEERING FOR FAIR TRADE

  9. Our volunteers from Poland, Aneta an Justyna, went to Madrid to work at the office and the fair trade store of Alianza por la Solidaridad. We met them there, they did great work and we made a wonderful video interview with them. They told us, that Madrid is slightly different to their hometowns in Poland: "When our people go home to sleep, Madrileños go out to eat!" We checked it out... It is true somehow!

  13. PICTURING GERMANY

  14. Sometimes it's just like this. You lower your expectations before a journey somewhere, not to be diappointed. You try to forget about cliches and things! But once you go there, it like collecting postcards from pitoresk sites...

  17. OUR SPANISH VOLUNTEERS IN POLAND

  18. Paco and Maximiliano arrived 2 weeks ago in Poland. It is slightly different to what they know from Spain, but it seems to be fun going out with the other members of the staff of the horse farm in Runowo... And the work as Cheerokee suits them well!
  20. CROSSCULTURAL CASES

  21. At some point of your voluntary journey the unexpected is going to happen, but you will never prepared for this - by definition, that's what the surprising, the new, the other looks like...
  22. VOLUNTEERS VISITING BERLIN

  23. This week, the #EVS4ALL volunteers from Bernburg spent a wonderful day in Berlin! The Brandenburg Gate was a must on the agenda of course :) They also visited the Allianz Kulturstiftung, that is located just next door!
  24. EVS4ALL IN STUTTGART

  25. This year #Stutengarten is celebrating its 10th anniversary. So at the ceremony we-the international volunteers were asked to congratulate them in our own languages. Me and Ana-Maria decided together what to say. My part was: "Congratulations to Stutengarten for the 10th edition!" Short and simple! But when we got off the stage Ana started laughing and said: "You know you said something different, right? The <second edition>, not 10th." Well...lucky me no one speaks Romanian there. #EVS4ALL #chance4life
  26. VOLUNTEERS IN A REAR VIEW MIRROR

  27. The three young women of Romania in Bernburg - Cristina, Gabriela and Roxana - have been a big Plus in the project EVS4ALL and they are looking back at their voluntary service as a real highlight this year! Besides they show a great deal of storytelling qualities and so they make their experiences vivid for us... Let's see!
  28. O luna de voluntariat. Cateva provocari. Lucruri invatate. O prietenie frumoasa. Multe zambete. Calatorii. Amintiri. Toate acestea le regasiti in filmuletul facut de Roxana la intoarcerea in Romania. In cadrul proiectului European Voluntary Service for All, ea a petrecut o luna la Stiftung Ev.
  29. LEARNING CURVE

  30. Our volunteer Emilia perfectly puts into words what volunteering is all about – helping others and ourselves to grow, and create an inclusive community!

  31. Day 6 – July 13
“We’ve started the day with pain at our arms...it’s a clear sign that we are actually making efforts and we like what we are doing, even though sometimes the weather is not so friendly and we have to interrupt our work while is raining. But then again, our work with the soil becomes easier in the end, so it’s win-win. In the afternoon, the old ladies from the building brought us cookies, water and coffee. I think they appreciate a lot what we are doing. Also, the refugees youngsters invited us for a football game. Pity I can’t run nor play football, but the boys from the team joined them.
Tomorrow is the trip day at the Castle and also the barbeque and I am looking forward to spend more time with the people that are working here.“

  32. Day 13 – July 20
“A new day full of smiles and big motivation, with cookies from the elder people from Mariaberg. It’s much easier to work at the garden when they come and offer you sweets and smiles. Our garden looks more beautiful and we have a lot of fun while working at it, sometimes singing the songs from the radio, sometimes dancing or just hugging our Ohana family. It’s amazing how in so few days, people get so close as they are friends since...forever. I love this feeling of belonging to a group and be connected through a real friendship. Maybe also because we are driven by the same goal: to offer our time and positive emotions to a community that need it and appreciate our efforts.
In the second part of the day I left with Lara and the Korean girls to buy the things needed for the multicultural evening in Reutlingen. When were turned, I’ve started to prepare biscuits salami. I hope it will be tasty”
  33. GETTING STARTED

  34. With more volunteers on their way, you're curious what it’s like to prepare for a voluntary stay abroad? Let us show you!
  35. HOLIDAYS IN GERMANY

  36. But who is taking care of the kids? Our Volunteers are of course... And who is to say that working as a social worker cannot be fun? They climbed mount Brocken, where the witches used to dance, they rowed boats on river Saale and they did what needs to be done on such hot summer days! See for yourself...
Here you can see how our volunteers from Stiftung Ev. Jugendhilfe St. Johannis Bernburg are having fun these days together with the kids. Gabriela prepared a short movie and she is telling us that the days together with the kids are really nice and the linguistic and cultural differences are not at all obstacles for their joy :) #EVS4ALL
  38. NEW SKILLS

  39. Our volunteers in Bernburg face a pointed topic... Who else knows how to sew properly? Or shape its voluntary service from the very ground?
  40. Learning how to sew! ;)

  41. BERNBURG OR BÄRENHAUSEN

  42. First report from our Romanian volunteers

  43. Last week we visited our storytelling team from Romania in Bernburg - Cristina, Gabriela and Roxana, who have done great work, completed 4 hours of coaching and finished their first report about their voluntary service. As teamers they participated in the project "Bärenhausen" - a childrens town that takes place for about a week in Bernburg and consists of everything you know from real towns - except adults! Banks, a townhall, shops, offices, hospitals and manufacturing. Below they just met the mayor... But let them tell you themselves!
  44. "Yesterday was the last day of Barenhausen. The children have spent their last money. We wanted to know the impression of “the mayor” about the last few days, so we tried to find him. After all the search, we figured out who was the person we were looking for. We shook his hand and we congratulated him. But... what a big surprise! We were wrong!
We were all confused because suddenly we saw another boy who looked exactly like our “mayor”. They were twins. Thanks to Elena, another volunteer, we found out which one of them was the real mayor. We were happy to meet the troublemaker and we took a picture with them. So here is the picture. Guess who was the mayor!"

  48. A choice has been made, the volunteers have departed from Romania and already arrived somewhere in a the middle of Germany... So the question is: Where exactly are our European volunteers?

  57. MEANWHILE IN ROMANIA

  58. Our partners "Chance for Life" in Romania are about to send volunteers abroad... Great interest at their meeting and lots of people who are curious about EVS4ALL. But the big question remains: Who will be sent to Germany?
#EVS4ALL
  60. The future volunteers are working hard too, here in the education program of our partner "Chance for Life".

  72. OPEN FOR TRANSMISSION

  73. This channel is open for transmission now! It will show you stories from all over Europe. Stories of young people, who were not afraid of leaving home and working in foreign countries. And these young people - the volunteers of the program European Voluntery Service 4 ALL (#EVS4ALL) - are going to post their stories via Social Media... Me and my collegues are collecting their impressions, ideas and statements here.
