Car industry: manipulation of exhaust emission tests up for plenary debate

  1. MEPs debated the unfolding Volkswagen exhaust emissions scandal during today's plenary session in Strasbourg. The debate with Industry Commissioner Elżbieta Bieńkowska commenced at 15.00 CET, with members asking the Commissioner to clarify whether emission test manipulation took place in Europe.
  2. Many speakers noted that the ongoing scandal endangers the credibility of the whole car sector, and called on the Commission to speed up the introduction of real drive emissions testing.
