The only festival that stops the Bruce Highway

Since 1996, the crowds at the Childers Festival have grown and are now putting a stop to the mighty Bruce Highway

  1. On the 30th and 31st of July, an estimated 40,000 people rushed through the entrances of the Childers, Multicultural festival to have a taste of the action being made from the non-stop entertainment, activities, music, hundreds of market stalls and great variety of gormet treats.
  2. The Festival, hosted in the main street of Childers: a small country town in Queensland, located 40 minutes south-west of Bundaberg, and 3.5hours north of Brisbane, is the only festival in Queensland to stop the Bruce Highway.
  3. According to organisers, the first Food and Wine Festival, held in 1965, only attracted 5,000 people.
  4. Now, after years of practice by organisers the festival attracts over 40,000 people, bringing a diverse amount of culture to the public in Australia.
  5. Shania Pimm, an attendee of the Festival encourages others to attend next year.
  6. "It makes me feel like I am in a street market in a different country," Ms. Pimm said.
  7. “It's fun and exciting having all the different music and cultures dancing around the streets,” Ms. Pimm said.
  8. Even though the chairs were beginning to sink into the melting bitumen road, Ms. Pimm was grateful for the seats in the shade at the festival.
  9. Whether you are six or 66 there was plenty of activities and entertainment options at the Childers Festival.
  10. Whether you wanted to partake in a street dance, or simply enjoy looking at a painted man, the choice was yours at the Childers Festival.
  11. Little six-year old's Landon and Milton couldn't leave the festival frog-less.
  12. The festival provided entertainment and activities for all ages, from the ground and up above.
  13. If you aren't into participating in activities and seeing the festival from a camel's back, there was still plenty to see from the ground.
  14. Graeme, a Volunteer in Policing, who was monitoring one of the entrances into the festival only had great things to say about the two days.
