Doug Dohring is currently the CEO of Age of Learning, Inc., the education technology company he founded in 2007. He is an entrepreneur with a long history of starting successful companies in Southern California. Doug established The Dohring Company in 1986 and oversaw its development into one of the largest market research companies in the United States as ranked by Advertising Age. The Los Angeles Business Journal listed the company among the 100 most rapidly growing private businesses in the region in 1995. From his company’s initial work in paper surveys, Doug Dohring entered the world of online market research when he registered the domain name OpinionSurveys.com. He developed that domain into a consumer research website with millions of members before its sale to Greenfield Online, a publicly listed company on the NASDAQ. In 2000, Doug Dohring incorporated NeoPets, Inc., following the acquisition of the recently launched website neopets.com, which quickly became a viral interactive social experience with tweens and teens. Within five years, it had registered more than 140 million member accounts and achieved 5 billion monthly page views. By the time Doug Dohring sold NeoPets to Viacom’s MTV Networks in 2005, it had become the ”stickiest” website in the world, with more page views per user and time spent per user than any other site. As one of the first social sites to go global, NeoPets delivered daily online translation of English content into multiple languages, including simplified and traditional Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, and Dutch. With his next company, Doug Dohring chose to focus on creating an engaging user experience for children that was completely curriculum-based, rather than simply entertaining. With this mission in mind, he founded Age of Learning. Through its award-winning website, ABCmouse.com Early Learning Academy, the company offers supplemental educational content for children between the ages of two and six that makes learning fun and accessible. Doug Dohring assembled a curriculum advisory board composed of award-winning educators and Ph.D.s in order to ensure that the website’s content is both engaging and effective in teaching children core concepts. ABCmouse.com offers more than 5,000 books, games, puzzles, and other activities that provide instruction in the subjects of mathematics, language arts, music, art, and basic science, among others. Learning Magazine honored ABCmouse.com with its 2012 Teachers’ Choice Award and the website has additionally earned several prestigious awards, as well as garnering substantial praise from children, parents, and teachers alike. The ABCmouse.com curriculum is offered free of charge to schools, libraries, and other community organizations.
