- Update Mar 14, 2018 12:35 PM EDT: Police believe the shooting might have been a murder-suicide, The New York Times reported, citing police officials.
Authorities said at a news conference Wednesday morning that officers found the door to the apartment locked after they were called by a 53-year-old woman -- identified by WPIX as the 1-year-old victim's grandmother -- around 5 a.m. Police found a 27-year-old man and his 1-year-old daughter shot dead in one room. In another, police found a slain 16-year-old. A 57-year-old man, believed to be the 27-year-old's stepfather and the teen's father, was found dead in a bathroom.
Officers said they recovered a gun from the scene of the shooting.
The victim's names were not immediately released.
- Update Mar 14, 2018 9:29 AM EDT: Police said they were called around 5 a.m. Wednesday after a 53-year-old woman, identified by WPIX as the grandmother of the youngest victim, discovered the bodies of four of her family members in a Brooklyn apartment.
Authorities said they found a 27-year-old man and his 1-year-old daughter shot and killed in one bedroom of the apartment on Thatford Avenue. In another room, they found a 16-year-old boy dead of a gunshot wound. A 57-year-old man -- married to the woman who discovered the bodies -- was found fatally shot in a bathroom.
Police said at a news conference Wednesday that all four victims were related, either biologically or through marriage. A firearm was recovered from the scene.
"At this time, we do not have a motive for this incident but we are working very hard to establish one," Deputy Chief Michael Kemper said.
