This week 15 Pace students have traveled to the Rockaways in Queens to help rebuild still vacant homes for families that were forced out by Superstorm Sandy in late 2012. Each day this week they will be blogging about their experiences, sharing pictures, and more.
March Madness has been in effect everywhere! Friends of Rockaway has had an influx of volunteers this month, and we wanted to share our thanks for making March a slam dunk! First, I would like to thank our ongoing volunteers, Green City Force.

A day that is usually unified by beer and festivities began differently for 15 Pace University students. The journey began by basic introductions and icebreakers, familiarizing the students from both the NYC and Pleasantville campuses. Dr. Bolton, a political science professor, came to speak to the group regarding his article "Security for Whom?
Although physically participating in the rebuilding process was satisfying, throughout the day I could not help but wonder why we are doing what we are doing, for whom and how effective our work is. I really enjoyed our time with Todd, the director of the Friends of Rockaway organization, and three site supervisors, at the end of our workday.
Today was awesome!! We completely re-did the floors of the first floor in this house. We put in drywall as well.
