  1. The term “apartment hotel” can often seem like little more than a marketing gimmick. It isn’t an apartment. It isn’t a hotel. It’s an apartment hotel, and it carries with it an air of mystique and wonder.

Of course, many apartment hotels are little more than apartment complexes where people come and go at a slightly faster rate. Typically, apartment hotels hardly commit to one side of the fence or the other. They hang in between both and often do neither especially well. Treasury on Collins hopes to break the mold of the typical apartment hotel in Melbourne. So far, the leaders of Treasury on Collins have done a splendid job.

    A Historic Property

The property itself is a historic building, originally developed in the 19th century, specifically 1876. It has a very classic and inspired feel, and it is something that is borrowed and reworked into the design to keep it both historically rich yet contemporary. The hotel is part of the CBD fare-free tram zone. It’s a travel area where individuals can come and go without a pass. It makes for effective travel in the vicinity.

    Inside the Room

The rooms of the Melbourne apartment hotel are expansive and gorgeous. The designers knew to rely heavily on the light, and this is accomplished with a massive open window which spans across the entire width of two entire floors. It’s an impressive design choice that opens up virtually an entire wall for each individual apartment room.

The rooms are loft-inspired. This means that they have a vertical vaulted-design. It creates an almost dizzying effect for guests, but it is a part of the classic charm. If any guests have a problem with stairs, it is not the place to be. So much so that, in fact, children under eight are not permitted to stay.

    The Food, Inside and Out

Guests are greeted with a kitchenette and all the major staples, including a television, microwave, and washer and dryer unit. The kitchenette is adorable, but inefficient for anyone who needs extensive cooking space. With that said, it is useable.

Apartment hotels in Melbourne often have food options available internally. Guests are treated to a café on the main mezzanine level of the hotel. It’s a lovely representation of some of the best elements of the food in Melbourne. In the immediate area, guests can find a number of French-inspired restaurants and cafes.

Though there are quite a few apartment hotels in Melbourne, Treasury by Collins manages to tackle every part of the “apartment hotel” atmosphere with acclaim. Guests can find food, a welcoming atmosphere, and some good Melbourne living however long they decide to stay.
