The 2012 NFL season, the 93rd regular season of the National Football League, is set to begin Wednesday, September 5, 2012, and will end with Super Bowl XLVII on Sunday, February 3, 2013, at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans.

Here are some of the legitimate ways to watch NFL games beyond those available on over-the-air broadcasts and basic cable:

•Many games are offered through the NFL Network channel. You can order this from your cable or satellite provider. This channel carries all the preseason games, weekly season games and hosts the popular show, NFL Total Access. It also includes “NFL Replay,” which offers the five best games of the week.

•For a free but legitimate viewing option, check out Hulu‘s NFL page online. You can watch past games, highlights and interviews. Just look under your favorite team’s name or in the Game of the Week section.

The Saints received a roster exemption for Vilma so they will not have to make a corresponding roster cut to accommodate the linebacker. But Smith now counts against the team's active roster.

Mary Kay Cabot of The Plain Dealer first reported the Browns had been granted a roster exemption for Fujita.

Saints safety Roman Harper said he'd welcome the return of his defensive teammates, Vilma and Smith.

"Well, if coach (Aaron) Kromer would let him come out, I'd definitely like to play with these guys," Harper told reporters.

"I'm excited," Saints quarterback Drew Brees told NFL.com and NFL Network reporter Aditi Kinkhabwala. "I've been focused on the game, but I hoped that that would be the case. No, I'm not surprised. I wouldn't call me surprised. Obviously, they saw the information that we've seen for a long time."

Regardless, Kansas City took a chance on the big nose tackle from Memphis, hoping he can anchor their defensive front for the next decade and beyond.

Poe is a very raw player who needs to be coached up to be successful. But the problem is, the Chiefs don't have many other options at nose tackle.

Amon Gordon made two starts last season and Jerrell Powe played in only one game.

Gordon appears to be the biggest competition for Poe and will probably open the season as the starter. But if Poe can pick up the scheme quickly, he's got a real shot to run with the first team.

Dontari Poe was one of those guys you get in every draft. The guy who is a workout warrior but whose talents don't translate when he steps on the field.

There will be a quarterback controversy in New York. That’s what you sign up for when you bring in Tim Tebow. Tebow himself is not a distraction, but his image and legions of worshipers are. And so are his naysayers. The initial plan seems to be for Tebow to replace Mark Sanchez in the red zone. For the worshipers, that’s not enough. For the naysayers, that’s too much.

Red zone offense has not been the Jets’ problem, though. Getting to the red zone has. That’s why Sanchez’s job security may be in question all season. In truth, no matter what the Jets do at quarterback, they’re going to have issues there: From a passing standpoint, Sanchez is iffy and Tebow is poor.

It’s natural to assume that the Jets will install a Wildcat-heavy offense like the one Tony Sparano ran in Miami. That’s why they traded a fourth-round pick to get Tebow, right? But there’s much more to Sparano’s offense than direct snaps to a running back. Sparano’s passing game, though not particularly complex, will be more demanding than what his predecessor Brian Schottenheimer ran.
