  1. September 2016. Thanks to ACT Writers' Centre, the Ainslie + Gorman Arts Centres and the Museum of Australian Democracy at Parliament House, I lived in Canberra for a month.
  2. Why live anywhere other than beloved home town of Adelaide? Well, I'm researching a novel set during Australia's Federation, which required taking a trip in time in space, changing myself in the process.
  3. Great City of the Exxilons lookalike - the Doctor Who fan in me loves this building. All it needs is a giant flashing light and insidious tentacles sucking the life out of the planet. #CanberraSean

  4. So who was Canberra Sean?
  5. He was very different to Adelaide Sean. For starters, he rode a bike. But not just any bike.
  6. My electric steed needs a name. Any suggestions? #CanberraSean

  7. Sparky the Sproutmobile was proudly electric, and defiant of all mockery.
  8. Canberra Sean wore work clothes and left home to work in an office.
  9. My little corner of Old Parliament House. Haven't shared an office since 1986! #CanberraSean

  10. Canberra Sean had a government ID.
  11. I haz a pass (with a very bad photo). #CanberraSean #OldParliamentHouse

  12. This ID gave him access to many of the secret spaces of Old Parliament House, which from 1927 to 1988 served as the seat of the Australian government. More on that wonderful place later.
  13. Canberra Sean lived in a bedsit in Gorman House. His bedsit had a beautiful view.
  14. Zeros degrees in Canberra last night! Here's the view from my bedsit window. #CanberraSean #gormanartscentre #residency

  15. Canberra Sean was far from home, but if he needed inspiration, there were poetry readings, music performances, dance events, art exhibitions and sculptures all at close hand.
  16. Great visual metaphor for the writing life as well as the reading experience: the shrinking self "On the Staircase" by Keld Moseholm, in the beautiful Gorman House grounds. #CanberraSean #nofilter

  17. Everyone was very nice to him. He spent a lot of time catching up with old friends and making new friends. He ate a lot of takeaway (props to Kinn Thai) and occasionally eating out (hello, Akiba, Sweet Bones).
  18. Akiba is an awesome restaurant in Canberra, evoking Flash Gordon in its signage (reflected here) and Akira in its name. Also the food is great! Definitely vego-friendly. I'm going to miss the eggplant dish in particular. Nom nom. (Apologies to South Australia for the insensitive lightning bolt. Hope you've all got your power back.) #CanberraSean

  19. Go to a poetry reading with @KaaronWarren. Come home with a wax head called Wilhelm. Day in the life of #CanberraSean :-)
