#FindOurGirls - What's fact? What's fiction?

There have been many stories that have come out about the missing girls in D.C. Here is what we know to be true so far.

  1. Between March 19 and March 24 about a dozen black and Latino girls were reported missing in the D.C area. However, the girls weren’t being reported on the D.C police stations website ,where it states that the first 48 hours a child is missing is the most crucial, or on the news. The story first broke on Twitter where hundred of people began to start retweeting various photos of the alleged missing girls with the hashtag - #FindOurGirls. Since 2017 there has been a total of 995 missing person cases.

  4. Celebrities also shared on their respective social medias posts demanding the issue to be brought to the forefront of news with the hashtag - #FindOurGirls. What sparked the outrage was that these missing girls weren’t being reported on anywhere but social media. Although, Tom Brady’s missing jersey was circulating the news and eventually was found.

There are conflicting stories but all of these girls are not runaways!!! Dont fall for that !   7. There was even a story that broke out that 14 girls had been kidnapped in a 24 hour period. Officials came forward to deny that accusation. After news outlets got a hold of the story, a few of the girls have come out stating that they were not missing.
  8. The city of D.C was just as outraged of this. Members of the community banned together for a town meeting demanding answers from local officials. Local citizens wanted to know how so many girls were missing without any update to the police station's website or any amber alert.
  9. According to D.C. Metropolitan Police statistics , there are 11 open cases involving missing youths as of April 13, 2017. The police department has taken to Twitter to give updates on the missing persons, thanking the media and the public for their help.
